Spine surgery prices down, utilization up

There are few medical device markets (if any) that are immune to the pervasive pressures to drive down healthcare costs. Accelerated utilization of healthcare by a growing elderly population and steadily rising healthcare premiums are strong forces pressing down on prices.

This is exemplified in the global market for posterior pedicle screw systems in spine surgery.  The trend is projected slowly but steadily down for average selling prices in these products, while utilization continues to grow.  Consequently, the projected trends illustrate higher procedure growth than sales growth.  See below:
